Driven By The Sun

The Winston Solar Challenge – a 1,400-mile race in which high school students build and drive their own solar cars – takes the Midwest by storm every summer. On their nine-day trip from Texas to Indiana, teams of students take turns driving their custom-built vehicles in an attempt to be the first to cross the finish line. With this documentary film of the 2001 Winston Solar Challenge, your students can experience the thrill of the competition as if they were there. Complete with footage of race preparation and the trip itself, this video includes interviews with the Challenge organizers, the teachers from the participating schools, and the students who took part in the race.
